Summary

A much requested feature for the arranger, was accounts. This is no small task. We needed to integrate with the most popular accounting software our clients used, ‘Xero’, and were required to follow accounting best practice. We had to tackle the challenge of supporting the complexity of a multitude of processes from business to business.

Final design of arrangement dashboard that had 80% of features implemented.

Challenges

Ideation

Conducted in-person field research across four funeral homes, mapping end-to-end operational workflows to uncover core user needs and business priorities. These insights directly informed the foundational design strategy for Arranger.

Release - Xero integration

Successfully launched the Xero-integrated invoicing system, enabling seamless handling of both new entries and previously incompatible legacy data. retaining users and enabling the onboarding of new users.

Final design files including searching for invoice, invoice builder and account management screen.

Findings and results

1

Processes varied widely between funeral homes.

We created personas to better identify various users.

A need to handle different processes and data between users.

I designed the software with limited verification. I focused on a flexible process whilst guiding users through for our more challenging users.

3

Sharing images with clients was necessary.

We created a visual journey allowing users to share catalogues and image galleries.

4

Data input was laborious.

To remedy this we created intelligent fields that grabbed previous data, saving a significant amount of time. We also populated letters and email templates with arrangement data.

5

Input required to be unobtrusive to avoid disrupting communication with the bereaved.

Consequently, we opted for a tablet first design to reduce any impact from larger monitors/screens.
